This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience working in diverse ecosystems while contributing to meaningful conservation and compliance efforts in the region.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with biological field surveys, including vegetation mapping, wildlife monitoring, and habitat assessments.
• Collect, manage, and interpret ecological and environmental data using field tools, GPS, and GIS software.
• Support the preparation of technical documents, including biological assessments, environmental impact analyses, and permitting documentation.
• Assist in monitoring ecological restoration projects and environmental mitigation efforts.
• Ensure data collection and reporting are consistent with federal, local, and territorial environmental regulations.
• Support senior biologists and project managers in coordinating fieldwork logistics and reporting deliverables.
• Maintain proper documentation and records from field activities.
• Participate in safety briefings and adhere to all safety and compliance protocols during field and office work.
• Interface with regulatory agencies such as Guam EPA, Department of Agriculture, and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service under supervision.
• Collaborate on projects that may involve coordination with military installations (e.g., Joint Region Marianas), community stakeholders, and local environmental organizations.

Key Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field.
• 1–3 years of relevant work experience in biological fieldwork, environmental consulting, or ecological restoration (internships may count).
• Familiarity with environmental regulations such as NEPA, Endangered Species Act, and Clean Water Act.
• Basic proficiency in GIS, GPS data collection, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to conduct fieldwork in challenging environments and varying weather conditions.
• Valid driver's license and ability to obtain base access and clearances as required.
• Experience working in island, coastal, or tropical ecosystems.
• Familiarity with Guam’s environmental policies, permitting processes, and local flora/fauna.
• Experience supporting federally funded or Department of Defense (DoD) environmental projects.

Skills:

• Ability to identify local plant and animal species.
• Basic understanding of habitat restoration and conservation strategies.
• Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in field and office settings.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and adaptable to shifting priorities.
• Effective time management and ability to meet project deadlines.

• Exposure to tropical climates (77–88°ree;F), high humidity, and frequent rainfall.
• Fieldwork in diverse environments including limestone forests, wetlands, savannas, and marine/coastal areas.
• Exposure to insects and local wildlife (e.g., mosquitoes, lizards, feral pigs).
• Possible marine-related work in intertidal zones, requiring water entry or boat access.
• Sun exposure and risk of heat stress—protective gear, hydration, and safety awareness required.
• Terrain may include steep cliffs, jungle trails, and rocky coastlines.
• Office-based duties include data entry, report writing, map production, and project coordination.
• Workspace is climate-controlled with standard desk setup.

Physical Demands

This role involves moderate to strenuous physical activity, including hiking, carrying equipment (20–50 lbs), and working long hours outdoors in variable conditions. The position may require standing or walking for extended periods and operating vehicles on rugged terrain. Flexibility and physical endurance are essential.
