HPI Finishing Supply is a 34 year-old family-owned Industrial Coatings and Equipment distributor that is expanding into a new facility in Kansas City MO. We are looking for a Color Tinting Specialist that will be responsible for supporting our commercial operations and sales activities. Come work with a team where your efforts make a difference!

Daily activities would include tinting and processing of coating and stain orders and would also involve processing of daily orders, product receiving, rotation of inventory and maintenance of the equipment in our color lab. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in coatings, stains, and finishes, an exceptional eye for color accuracy, and a strong ability to work in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. Experience in a paint store or commercial coatings operation preferred. Training is available for qualified candidates.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manually mix and match stains and pigmented lacquers to meet exact customer specifications.
• Operate and interpret results from the spectrophotometer to assist in color matching while making manual adjustments as needed for precise color accuracy.
• Develop and adjust stain formulations to account for variations in wood grain and absorption properties. Experience matching stains across multiple wood species (e.g., maple, oak, walnut) is strongly preferred but not required.
• Maintain high standards for color consistency, finish quality, and application accuracy, ensuring the final product meets customer expectations.
• Maintain detailed records of colors developed, formulas, and adjustments for future reference.
• Oversee and maintain spray equipment, dispensers, and inventory to ensure efficient operations.
• Provide exceptional customer service, both in person and over the phone, by assisting customers with color solutions, stain recommendations, and product selection.
• Partner with Sales Representatives to fulfill customer expectations and troubleshoot color-related challenges.
• Conduct spray demonstrations and finishing training at customer facilities.
• Stay up to date with industry trends, techniques, and best practices in coatings and finishing.

• Excellent communication skills to effectively coordinate with customers, sales representatives, and internal teams.
• Self-motivated, results-driven individual that works independently without constant supervision.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills related to color discrepancies.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while meeting customer deadlines.
• Ability to lift up to 70 lbs.
• Maintain a valid Driver's License.

We offer product training and an experienced support team to help you succeed. M-F 7:30-4. We do not have evening or weekend hours. Compensation ranges $53,000 - $63,000 based on qualifications and experience.
