Position Overview

The Organizer will be responsible for mobilizing and engaging members and stakeholders in local communities, supporting the development of local advocacy campaigns, and building strong local coalitions to drive social and economic change.

Location

This position may be based in Washington, DC near McPherson Square Metro as part of a hybrid environment with Tuesdays, Thursdays, and sometimes Wednesdays in the office, or remote within the following states: California, Georgia, Illinois, North Carolina, Virginia.

Responsibilities

Community Engagement and Mobilization:

  • Implement national advocacy campaigns at the local level
  • Organize and facilitate community meetings, town halls, and other events to gather input and build support for advocacy efforts.
  • Build, maintain, mobilize, and collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders including grassroots organizations, local non-profits, local government, and other organizations to establish and grow NCRC’s presence in the local community
  • Inform organizing strategy development based on the needs of local stakeholders
  • Recruit and manage the coordination of local stakeholders for issue-based campaigns and actions
  • Identify and support impacted community members in writing blog posts, opinion articles, and letters to the editor.

Coalition Building and Partnership Development:

  • Identify and cultivate relationships with potential local coalition partners, including nonprofits, advocacy groups, and community organizations.
  • Facilitate collaboration and coordination among local coalition members to maximize impact.
  • Represent NCRC in local coalitions, networks, and public events.

Advocacy Training and Capacity Building:

  • Deliver training programs and workshops to educate community members and activists on advocacy skills and strategies.
  • Provide ongoing support and mentorship to volunteers and activists to enhance their effectiveness.
  • Create and distribute advocacy toolkits, guides, and other resources at the direction of the Regional Field Director and Director of Organizing and Advocacy.

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Track and evaluate the effectiveness of local advocacy campaigns and activities.
  • Prepare regular reports on campaign progress, outcomes, and lessons learned.
  • Use data and feedback to refine strategies and improve future efforts.
  • Inform the appropriate NCRC colleagues of impacted community members' experiences, priorities, and concerns to develop community-supported solutions.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Participate in team meetings and contribute insights for strategic planning purposes.
  • Develop and maintain expertise in association management and apply that expertise to NCRC’s unique context and needs.
  • Assist with fundraising and resource development as needed.

Qualifications

  • Experience with political, non-partisan, issue-based, or candidate campaigns on the national and/or state level preferred
  • Deep understanding of advocacy strategies and the ability to inspire and lead diverse groups of people
  • Skilled communicator and relationship builder
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-starter with strong project management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
  • Highly organized, proactive, and committed to advancing the mission of NCRC
  • Sense of humor and solutions-oriented attitude
  • A demonstrated understanding of cultural competency

  • Organizational: Excellent attention to detail and ability to organize work around strict timelines
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Program Management: Displays willingness to make decisions, exhibits sound and accurate judgment, and makes timely decisions to effectively manage programs
